Every Tesla on the road replaces a gas-powered car that would burn fuel and release CO2. Because Teslas produce zero tailpipe emissions they help reduce smog in cities and lower the carbon footprint of personal travel. As the electric grid gets cleaner EVs get cleaner along with it.
Power from the sun
Solar energy and renewable power
Tesla's solar roofs and panels let homeowners generate their own electricity. Paired with Powerwall batteries households can store sunlight during the day and use it at night. At the grid scale Megapack installations help cities run on renewable energy and stay online during outages.
Closing the loop
Battery recycling programs
Tesla recovers valuable materials like nickel, cobalt, and lithium from used battery packs so they can be reused in new ones. The company reports that nearly all of the raw materials in its battery cells can be recycled. This reduces the need for new mining and keeps waste out of landfills.
